A Muse for the Wall Street Protesters

Don’t stoop down to their level and speak in a language they can understand.  Aim high, far, and wide, otherwise you will achieve little more than mediocre results.  In other words, occupy the human direction. (Edit addition:  Think long-term…think five generations out and beyond…eventually we will have to make sacrifices and tough decisions to break the cycle of insantity).

“It is because Humanity has never known where it was going that it has been able to find its way.”

“Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man’s original virtue. It is through disobedience that progress has been made, through disobedience and through rebellion.”

Oscar Wilde

“I am convinced all of humanity is born with more gifts than we know.  Most are born geniuses and just get de-geniused rapidly.”

Richard Buckminister

“Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people.”

Dr. Carl Sagan

“There are those who will say that the liberation of humanity, the freedom of man and mind is nothing but a dream.  They are right.  It is the American Dream.”

 Archibald MacLeish

“Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.”

Tom Robbins

“A thought, even a possibility, can shatter and transform us.”

“To forget one’s purpose is the commonest form of stupidity.”

Friedrich Nietzsche

“If I accept you as you are, I will make you worse; however if I treat you as though you are what you are capable of becoming, I help you become that.”

“I love those who yearn for the impossible.”

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“Then let us all do what is right, strive with all our might toward the unattainable, develop as fully as we can the gifts God has given us, and never stop learning”

Ludwig van Beethoven

“True wisdom comes to each of us when we realize how little we understand about life, ourselves, and the world around us.”

“Worthless people live only to eat and drink; people of worth eat and drink only to live.”

Socrates

“It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live.”

Marcus Aurelius

  1. Pose that question to a rogue male Orca and he will give you his answer. Pose that question to Bill O’Rielly, and he will give you his answer. Pose that question to Karl Marx and he will give you his answer.

Pose that question to Socrates, and you won’t get an answer but you will explore possiblities to answer that question.

Pose that question to me and I will refer you to Socrates.

  2. Love the quotes, especially Buckminister and Robbins… they just ring my bell tonight for some reason… the purpose of life, hmmmmm… a penny for my thoughts, Tincup… well let’s see, what does a penny landing in a tincup sound like and will some think it “real” money or a useless token representing another useless token of some other useless purpose… one of my personal purposes is to have no purpose at all… you see, I have no answers either… love and only love, that’s all I know… not so much in a romantic though that is nice… just loving what we do… loving others as we would want ourselves to be loved… loving where we are… who we are with… the way things in the world work… eventually… LOL I once heard a quote that said something like this: if we were to toss our collective sorrows into a heap and then reach back in for our share of problems, we would each want our own back. When in doubt, this always gives me purpose and aligns my thinking because I don’t think even if there is an answer that it can be finite: “T’were all as good to ease one beast of grief as sit and watch the sorrows of the world.” ~ from The Light of Asia by Edwin Arnold … Okay, enough blogging on your blog, Tincup, this is a good night. Wait ’til I have a bad one, it gets longer, LOL Thanks for your visit. Wait. What have you learned about women… so far… LOL

    • Yes…on average they speak 30,000 words per day compared to the male counterpart that average only 5,000 words per day…and that is a good day:) LMAO…looking forward to reading some wild women posts. At least I know what “rings your bell”.

      • It’s interesting to note that all of the above quotes are from men. You might try to dig up a quote from a woman, even though you may have a problem fitting it into the limited space available. Just kidding.

  3. @ tincup: well … the truth is… you know only what I told you… rings my bell… LOL… but I did not mean literal, bells in my head… ONLY. Don’t worry, not that you will :), the collective is still in agreement that you are quite interesting company to keep… LOL

Just because I’m in a really good mood, I want to really try to fill up all the available space there is tonight, LOL so throwing this one in for good measure before I answer the call of my pillow:
“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.”
    ― Maya Angelou
Smiling, you guys had me laughing out loud. With you, not AT you, you understand 🙂 I think. LOL.

      • Those are both great quotes . . . . . That Angelou quote has a distinct Socratic tone to it, yes?

To answer your question, Tincup, yes I think women talk profusely in their dreams, which is the reason why the only time they are quiet is when they are asleep. 🙂

  4. Now listen here. I ain’t too proud to bite. Wait. That’s a song. Almost. Oh well. Your lob. LOL LOL

    Uhmmm.

    PS
How did you sleep or were you up all night wondering about that quiet time business? (clicks heels together for another day in wonderland LOL LOL) 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration on another relationship piece… watch for it… nevermind… you probably won’t like it… LOL LOL That’s okay, I’ll include some cartoons… LMAO
