Oh modern man how far you have come
Difficult for one to compute the sum
Airplanes, skyscrapers, roads and cars
Your cities at night look like the stars
Money, Wall Street, Banks and loans
Worry not just ignore the groans
Computers, software, satellites and phones
With a little more progress we can become drones
One, two, seven billion or more
Nothing wrong with being a whore
Costco, Wal-Mart, Amazon abound
There isn’t anything that can’t be found
Medicare, Medicaid, and Fannie Mae
You can pay the bill another day
Oh modern man how far you have come
Truly makes my mind go numb
Beautifully written.
Hope you like my poems. 🙂
I’ll check them out. It was fun. I always have fun with ryming poems…my more serious poems don’t ryme…too limited in word choice.
That is so good, you hit the nail on the head. Human kind has become a mad money grabbing whore dashing blindly into dronehood! Also how about: Chop it, slash it cart it away, use for paper and furniture and worry about replanting another day!
That is such a thought provoking poem , a timely reminder of what we are doing. Gosh just had another though : Starbucks, Costa, Cafe Noir lets all drown in coffee, and not worry where it came from no matter how far!! I am sorry but you have so touch a nerve with me . Well done brilliant work!!
I was actually going to write medium length post on the positives of what we have achieved and then pose some questions towards the end…but that will be for another day. I decided to have a little fun and enjoy a few laughs.
mission accomplished then!!!
“To what end”? This is the question that has escaped the modern human being, the one it refuses to address or even become aware of. In the meantime, all its gadgetry, superficial materialism, and other “advances” provide more and more opportunities for it to lose itself in and avoid that question. Then, ultimately, these opportunities to get lost in those things are transformed into opportunities to meld with and become them–for in the end that is what “losing oneself” in something becomes. “With a little more progress we can become drones”>>>>indeed.
Nice work.
I really liked your poem. As has already been said you got it perfectly.
I’m glad you’ve had fun writing it as I’m sure everyone has had reading it.
awesome, you hit the point in emphasizing how complex we have become. our world seems so artificial and automatic, we are becoming drones. we are slaves to credit cards and that complexity is something we surely can live without.
modern man should open up his eyes, there is beauty in small places and nature is all willing to accommodate. this complex emptiness we feel should be rectified.
wonderful creative poem. it just hits the point.
numb?.. I feel positively scared at how far we’ve come, in so short a time. yet learned so little of what ‘counts’ and is important… Your poem pinpoints this ferzackerly… (sorry I make up my own words sometimes, and I love using olde ones, :- , methinks, forsooth, gadzooks, (which causes spellchecker to go into spasms, and suggest Bazookas? 😉 ) xx
This poem brought to mind a quote by Malcolm Muggeridge “until at last, having educated himself into imbecility, and polluted and drugged himself into stupefaction, he keels over a weary, battered old brontosaurus and becomes extinct” Truly we can justify away anything we do because we are so intelligent we have forgotten how ignorant we truly are. We feed ourselves unquestioningly and believe we can “pay the bill another day”. So true. A provoking work. Well done!
